A new store in downtown Grand Blanc will bring Fair Trade products from across the world to the area.A member of the Fair Trade Federation, 7 Loaves plans to open a retail store on Saginaw Street in downtown Grand Blanc by October.This item is for one stainless steel bangles core for wood.The company started in 2001 first as a hobby, but grew into a wholesale business selling to boutiques and galleries. The venture in Grand Blanc will be its first retail store. 

The fair trade concept is an effort to sell products from craftspeople and farmers in developing countries who lack economic opportunity and finding markets and customers for their goods.Both 7 Loaves President Chad Cleveringa and Vice President Robin Martini are from Ann Arbor, but they opted to bring their store to Grand Blanc, where Cleveringa's wife, Robin Ross, owns the Retina Vitreous Center in Grand Blanc Township. 

"There are a lot of cool, inventive things in Ann Arbor. We would have been one of many," Cleveringa said.Martini added that a store of this type was something the community in Grand Blanc didn't have.The store sells certified fair trade products, such as baskets, vases, jewelry,Costume and fashion online wholesale jewelry Jewelry designs, home accessories, hand bags and personal accessories, pottery collectible and some children items. The items come from Central and South America, Africa and Southeast Asia.tungsten jewelry is making a revolution in the jewelry industry by introducing unique types of designs, 

Martini said the store's merchandise is of a higher quality and she works personally with the groups C which are members of the World Fair Trade Organization C to help them develop their products so they are marketable in the United States. For example, Martini will work with the individual groups to get them to make more contemporary pieces or to use different colors. 

Cleveringa said that by working with the groups, they're helping the products stand on their own. He added that they work to "export dignity," not import products.Martini travels to the different countries to meet with the groups. Her last trip was to Swaziland and South Africa in June 2012. On that particular trip, Martini was joined by Cleveringa and Ross and while there they met with the leadership of 16 different artisan groups C which totaled about 800 women who are members of those groups C and spent a few days with some of the artisans learning about where they live and work, what materials they use and how they make their products. 

"It was really a big deal in a lot of ways, because we found a lot of high-end products to help our brand," Cleveringa said about that trip.Cleveringa said the work through the fair trade process doesn't necessarily change the standard of living for the women who made the products, but with the extra income they receive through it, they are able to keep their children in school C thus providing more opportunities for the children. And it is in that generation where efforts can break through that poverty line. 

In addition, the business sets aside a percentage of profits from all the products sold and use that money each year to help one of the member groups C such as buying tables, chairs, etc. for the artists. 

The stock split will entitle all stockholders of record at the close of business on September 20, 2013 to receive one additional share of Steve Madden common stock for every two shares of common stock held on that date. The additional shares are expected to be distributed to stockholders on or about September 30, 2013 by the Company's transfer agent. As a result of the stock split, the number of outstanding shares of the Company's common stock will increase to approximately 68.8 million shares from approximately 45.9 million shares outstanding prior to the split.
